CAT Quant practice tests

~40 min. Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and number systems

Quantitative Ability (Quant) tests core mathematical skills, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and number systems, under strict per-question time pressure. Practice here to sharpen calculation speed and pattern recognition.

CAT Quant practice by topic

Short sets with worked solutions, ideal before a timed test.

About CAT Quant and how to practise it

Quantitative Ability has 22 questions in 40 minutes, covering arithmetic, algebra, geometry and mensuration, number system and modern maths such as permutations and probability. Some questions are multiple choice with negative marking and some are type in the answer.

Arithmetic and number system together carry a large share of the paper, so they are the best place to build accuracy first. Learn the standard formulas and shortcuts, then practise recognising which one a question wants.

How to use these tests

  1. Revise one topic from the formula sheet, then solve its topic practice page before taking a timed test.
  2. Time yourself at about 90 seconds a question and mark questions you would skip in the exam.
  3. Redo wrong questions after three days without looking at the solution.
  4. Take a full 40 minute Quant test every week to practise question selection.

Common mistakes

  • Using the new value as the base in percentage problems.
  • Forgetting to check units before calculating.
  • Staying too long on a question that is not yielding.

Frequently Asked Questions about CAT Quant

How many questions are in CAT Quant?

CAT Quantitative Ability typically has around 22 questions covering arithmetic, algebra, geometry and mensuration, and number systems.

Is a calculator allowed in CAT Quant?

No, CAT does not allow a physical calculator. The exam interface provides an on-screen basic calculator for non-MCQ (TITA) questions only, not for multiple-choice questions.
