CAT DILR practice tests
~40 min. Data sets and logical puzzles requiring analysis and deduction
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) is widely considered CAT's most time-pressured section, sets of related questions built around a single dataset or puzzle. Practice here to get faster at spotting the structure of a set before you start solving it.

About CAT DILR and how to practise it
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning has 22 questions in 40 minutes, grouped into four or five sets built around a table, chart, arrangement or puzzle. Sets differ widely in difficulty, so choosing which ones to attempt matters as much as solving them.
Most marks are lost to misreading a condition or choosing the wrong layout for the set, not to hard calculation. The tests here use short sets so you can practise the method: read the whole set, draw the structure, then answer.
How to use these tests
- Do two or three sets a day with a timer, and write down how long each took.
- Always list every valid arrangement before answering questions that depend on it.
- Review each set by asking where you first went wrong: reading, layout or calculation.
- Once a week, scan four sets in three minutes and decide the order in which you would attempt them.
Common mistakes
- Starting to solve before reading every question.
- Dropping a possible case too early.
- Staying with a set that is not opening up after eight minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions about CAT DILR
How many questions are in CAT DILR?
CAT DILR typically has around 20 questions, organized into sets of 4-5 questions each built around a shared dataset, table, or logical puzzle.
Why is CAT DILR considered the hardest section?
DILR sets vary widely in difficulty and time required, and choosing which sets to attempt first is itself a skill. Many candidates find the section unpredictable because a set that looks solvable can turn out to be far more time-consuming than expected.
