Format, tests and work rights
Programme format
Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial run twelve month programmes. London Business School runs a 15 to 21 month MBA and a separate One year MBA.
Entrance and English tests
Schools accept the GMAT or GRE, and an English test such as IELTS Academic when your degree was not taught in English. Some schools waive the test for applicants with an English taught degree.
After the MBA
The UK Graduate visa lets international students stay to work or look for work after an eligible course. GOV.UK states the stay is 18 months for applications made on or after 1 January 2027, so check the length that applies on your application date.
Points to weigh
- Fees are quoted for the whole programme, not each year, so compare them with a full two year total in the USA.
- Chevening funds one year master level study in the UK for applicants with at least two years of work experience, but check which MBA courses are eligible.
- Living costs in London and Oxford are high, so budget for them on top of the programme fee.
Questions about an MBA in the UK
How much does an MBA in the UK cost?
The published programme fees on this page range from £77,950 for the London Business School One year MBA to £123,950 for its full MBA. Oxford is £94,120 and Cambridge is £86,250 for September 2027 entry. These cover tuition only, so add living costs.
Is a one year MBA worth it?
It costs less in living expenses and lost salary, and it suits applicants with clear career goals. A two year programme gives more time for an internship and a career switch.
Can I stay in the UK after my MBA?
The Graduate visa allows a stay after an eligible course. GOV.UK says it is 18 months for applications made on or after 1 January 2027. Read the current rules before you apply.
